In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov teaches the 2 important ideas (chess rules) that will improve your rating drastically and help you reach 2000 Elo rating and beyond in no time.

The main problem with most chess players is that they start learning some ideas in chess, they make some progress, and reach a rating between 1400-1800. But after that certain level, they can’t progress any further and are stuck at that rating level. Their ratings go up and down a little bit, but they remain in that level.

Recently, GM Smirnov has been analyzing the results and the progress of the RCA students who increased their ratings drastically, and he found that these 2 ideas helped them make a breakthrough in their chess progress.

  1. Genuinely thought I had the most watermelon brain fora second by thinking of knight f5

  2. queen f7, king h8, queen f8, rook takes queen, rook f8 checkmate

  3. Qf7+ Kh8 is forced
    Qf8+ RxQf8 is forced
    RxRf8# is checkmate

  4. Sounds more like excerpt from "Chess for Dummies" book.

  5. 2000 FIDE or 2000 on like lichess? Cause nowadays on lichess, main lines of say the sicilian, ck or english, are countered to say eleven moves deep, with the analysis indicating +- 0.1 or something, by players rated like 1400 even. The pandemic and the tv series hype must be over, but I don't see your two magic ways of thinking helping one to get to 2k. I also played games that were equal to 21 moves deep, with cpls like 12, against punks supposedly rated 1600 on lichess. If, and that is a big if, they were real people, and if they were not … cheating.

  6. when black knight was on A5 and C5 I saw you could fork both knights by playing the pawn forward two .

  7. Why wouldn't White just move rook a1 in the first example?

  8. for the ending puzzle:
    qf7, kh8
    qf8, rxf8
    rxf8 is mate

  9. And here I was after analysing the board for 10min thinking that I'd found a killer move with Knight to f5 😀

  10. Thanks for your course offer. At the time I can not afford. But i will try when ever possible. Thanks.

I have a strange issue but similar to the being stuck in a rating part. I started chess a month ago and climbed from 400 to 1054. It took 800 games to get there, but now after 300 more games played I dropped to 850 and I don’t know why. I’m missing more things than I did before, and my elo has plummeted hugely. But does this mean I’m a 850 player now? That wouldn’t make sense because I was in the 900-1000 rating for a couple hundred games as well. Not sure what to do

  12. what if @3:44 instead of bishop pulling back, the white horse moves away clearing the path to the queen? then the check mate is no longer viable in that way.

  13. In the second example you could have forked the knights with the pawn on b2

  14. QF7, KG8, QF8, Rook takes on F8, Rook takes on F8

  15. "Double your strength and reach 2000!"

GM Smirnov is calling us all ~1000 rated players 🙁

  16. Queen f7 check. King to h8. Queen f8 check. Black rook takes queen. White rook takes black rook MATE….

  17. Ohhh so cool i found the rook d8 move for exactly those reasons… this is a really great way of looking at chess. Thinking of the possible attacks instead of trying to just control squares and tunnel vision into one idea. Pretty cool stuff!

  18. Also Qf7Check, Kh8, Qf8Check, RtakesQf8, RtakesRf8CheckMate

  19. To recap, no wishful thinking, figure it out and stay on the attack by figuring it out. Focus. Reach beyond your normal patterns of thought to find what works

  20. Queen F7 (check) , King H8 , Queen F8(check) , Ra8 x QF8 ,Rf1 x Rf8 (checkmate)

  21. 1.Qf7 , Kh8 2.Qf8 , Ra1xQf8 3. Rf1xF8 mate

  22. "How can I go forward to @#₪ half the board"
I don't understand what the missing word was and you said it like 4 times

  23. @7:38, after Rd8, cant RxD8 be played safely? After Qf7; king can slide to H8 safely? I’m lost

  24. I incorporate both of these already so I think I just need to figure out how to not blunder💀

  25. Folks, this video won’t get you to 2000 nor will his little academy thing. Whatever happened to clearing off the kitchen table, setting up the pieces, and putting in the work studying a book?

The book Imagination in Chess by Gaprindashvili does a much better job explaining ways to work around tactics that you intuitively know will work, but get stuck at a certain point and can’t make the tactics work. This is an advanced book.
